Rosa Design – Landscape Architecture
Where we work
Rosa Design is a landscape architecture studio with an office in Kraków. We design gardens in Kraków and the surrounding municipalities, most often for new homes on larger plots, where the garden should be a well-thought-out part of the whole investment rather than an afterthought. We work in English and Polish, and we also design gardens remotely for clients abroad.
Most of our Kraków projects begin at the same moment: the house is finished or nearly finished, and around it lies an empty plot left after construction. This is the best time to design the garden: before random paths appear, before the first row of thujas goes in along the fence, and before anything has to be redone.
We mostly design gardens on larger plots, with terraces, pools, fire pits, children’s areas and kitchen gardens. We also design smaller urban gardens, as our project in Swoszowice shows.
A new plot is often bare ground without a single tree or any shade. We plan the garden so that it has shade and structure from the very first season. We choose trees and shrubs that build up the space quickly and combine them with plants that will shape the garden for years to come.
The area around Kraków is being built up fast: today there is a field behind the fence, in two years a neighbour’s house with windows facing your terrace. We design screening with plants, landform and garden structures so that seating areas feel secluded, without a monotonous hedge of thujas around the whole plot.
Plots around Kraków often slope towards the road, a neighbour or a valley. Handled well, a slope becomes an asset: a two-level terrace, low walls with planting, garden steps, a view from the upper part of the garden. The design also deals with drainage, so that rainwater does not run towards the house or onto the terrace.
Many plots already have trees, some old and valuable, some diseased or growing in the wrong place. We assess which are worth keeping and how to work them into the new garden. A mature tree gives shade and character that a new garden would otherwise wait over a decade for.
We also design gardens for clients outside Poland. The process is the same, and it can run entirely online: you send us a site plan, photos and, ideally, a short video of the plot. We discuss your needs in a video call and present the concept and visualisations online. Our modern garden in Stuttgart, Germany was designed this way, without a site visit. Where the location allows, for example in Slovakia, we can also visit the site in person. Either way, you receive complete documentation that a local landscaping contractor can work from.

More work: all projects.
We tailor the scope to the plot and your needs. The core is a dimensioned concept, a planting plan and a plant schedule with quantities. Where needed, we add grading, paving, lighting, garden structures, fencing and 3D visualisations. The whole process is described on our How we work page.
Yes. Weronika Rosa, who leads every project, works with clients in English and Polish: from the first email through to the final documentation.
Just send us a site plan and a few photos of the plot. Based on these, we prepare a proposal, usually in two options, and send it by email. Once the proposal is accepted, we meet in person or online.
On the scope of the design, the size of the plot, and whether there are existing trees and features that need to be surveyed.
Any time of year. The design is based on the site plan, photos and our conversation; the season only affects when planting can start.
Yes, in and around Kraków we work on site. Further afield, a site plan, photos and online meetings are enough, which is how we design across Poland and abroad: in Germany fully remotely, and in Slovakia with a site visit.
Yes, we work with contractors we trust, though the choice is always yours. Design supervision is available for an additional fee.
Yes, although most of our projects are gardens on larger plots. Our project in Swoszowice is an example of a small garden.
Always a concept with plans, dimensions, a planting plan, a plant schedule with quantities and requirements, and a materials list. Where the site needs it, we add grading, paving, lighting and garden structure drawings, and in the extended option 3D visualisations. The details are on our How we work page.
We make sure the garden is built according to the design. The garden is built by a contractor of your choice, and design supervision is ordered separately. If needed, we also advise on buying plants and materials.
