Swoszowice – small modern garden

Location: Swoszowice, Kraków

This modern garden among mature trees in Swoszowice was designed to work with its surroundings and the shape of the house. Plenty of timber elements make it cosy and stylish, and the small space is used to the full.

The design does not fight the tall pines and broadleaf trees but makes use of them: they give shade, privacy and a woodland atmosphere right next to the white, modern house.

Terrace with a pergola. The terrace of large paving slabs is covered by a timber and glass roof. It has a dining area and a lounge with sofas. Slatted timber screens shield the terrace from the neighbours, and timber planters link it to the garden.

Children’s playhouse. A timber playhouse on stilts stands among the pines, reached by a stepping-stone path across the lawn.

Places to rest. A hammock, a hanging chair and a lounger under the trees create a few small corners for reading and resting in the shade.

Shade planting. Under the trees grow hostas, ferns and perennials in shades of purple and blue, complemented by grasses.

Garden shed and lighting. The design also includes a garden shed. In the evening, glowing light spheres and low path lights illuminate the garden.
